Where To?
I was asked where Jesus' soul went, between the time He gave up His life on the Cross and His bodily resurrection, and whether or not Jesus went down into hell during that time. I don't know for sure, but these are some of my thoughts on the matter. I believe that Jesus' soul went immediately into the presence of the Father. The work that Jesus did on the Cross paid in full, the price of our redemption. There is also the fact that Jesus turned to the thief on the cross next to Him and told the man that he would be with Him that day in paradise.
It doesn't necessarily follow though, that He stayed in heaven for the entire period of time. "18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit, 19 by whom also He went and preached to the spirits in prison," 1 Peter 318,19. I believe that Jesus visited "the abode of the judged", tartarus, to proclaim His glorious, finished victory over sin and death to the demons who were bound there. Their master's doom, and that of his followers had been foretold in Genesis 3.
This is speculative on my part, based on what I have read in Genesis 3, 1 Peter 3:18 and 19, but also Genesis 6, Jude and 2 Peter 2, verses 4-10. My opinion is that it is one of those things we will only completely know about, when we are on the other side.
