Voices of Affirmation
I recently made a post about whether or not Jesus ever said He was God. At least one person might have taken issue (I'm still not sure) with the fact that I didn't end the question with "Son of God." I considered the matter and decided that it was not that important. Regardless of where one comes down on the doctrinal question of the Trinity, whether one has a modalistic view of God or not, Jesus was shown to be God.
If one doesn't look for Him to say it, plenty of others were willing. Mark opened his gospel record by saying it in Chapter 1, verse 1. The angel who visited Mary told her that her child would be the Son of God in Luke 1:35. John the Baptist a book later in John, Chapter 1, verse 34. Nathanael affirmed it 15 verses later in John 1:49. Martha clearly believed He was the Son of God. John 11:27.
The centurion was convinced of Jesus' deity and said so in Matthew 27:54. The demons identified Jesus as God's Son. (Matthew 8:29, Mark 3:11 and Luke 4:41) The Pharisees brought the charge against Jesus of claiming to be God's Son. (Matthew 27:43 and John 19:7) Jesus didn't deny their claim in that regard. In point of fact, He admitted to it in Luke 22, verse 70.
The entire gospel account by John was penned in order to demonstrate to the reader that Jesus is the very Son of God. The notion that Jesus' deity was not plainly stated can only be reached by ignoring the plain things that He did say, and the plain things that so many others said too.
