Old Glory

This is the latest carving that my wife and I have completed. We finished it earlier this evening. It will be a gift to my mother for her birthday this week. She has always liked things about the history of our nation's flag and the things that it stands for. It may be a little difficult to see the detail in these pictures, but the carving is in complete relief, down to the stars. The piece is done in basswood, and is about 32 inches long. It's an "overboard" or "overdoor" as they are known, and it's made to be installed over doors, entryways or a fireplace, just about anywhere one wants to place one. This particular carving only took about eleven hours for me to carve and my wife to paint and "antique".
