Holding It All Together

I had an interesting conversation with a young college student who is majoring in chemical engineering. We ended up talking about Jesus. I asked him to tell me what he knew about the atom. He told me a little bit about what he knew, and I asked him what he thought held things together, at the atomic level. He didn't have an answer, and that is about what I expected.

I told him that scientists still do not know why atoms (and everything else) just don't fly apart. They only thing they know is that they should, but that they don't. Once in awhile, some will try to say that it is an unknown natural force. I told him I thought that I knew, and that the answer could be found in the Bible. He waited and I explained that the Bible teaches us that Jesus is the Creator (For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. Colossians 1:16) "And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist." Colossians 1:17. He answered, "Makes sense to me."

Jesus should be served by us for that reason alone, but the list of reasons is endless. Everything that exists was not only created by Him and through Him, but for His purposes as well. God made us----all of us, not for our own purposes, but for His purposes, to serve His perfect will. It was an enjoyable conversation. It is a true pleasure to be in agreement with someone about the majesty and power of the sovereign Lord of the universe.
