The Truth of the Matter
One thing that he did not seem surprised about, was the reality of Hell. Early in the course of our conversation I asked him if he thought he was a Christian. He had answered with a no.
The subject of Hell came up later and I asked that if he were to die that evening, did he believe that he would go to heaven. He answered with another no.
I had given him the truth, he knew what to do, and still, two weeks later, he has made no move to ask for forgiveness from the Lord.
The problem is, not only was he given a false gospel, which meant a false Jesus, but he was also deceived with a false Hell.
The problem is, the hell he still believes in is one that isn't a real threat. He probably thinks that a loving God would not put anyone into a hell that meant eternal punishment. Our loving God in fact does not cause that to happen. Men cause that to happen to themselves.
The hell he believes in can be "worked" out of. Eventually, no harm/no foul.
In his mind, there's no real hurry because there is no real, threatening consequence for his sins.
I hope he continues to read his Bible, because he will see that Jesus talked more about repentance and Hell than anyone else in the Bible.
