Our Temperature
You know, you read the Book of Matthew, and it emphasizes the outreach of Christianity to everyone on the planet, despite the fact that it was written to the Jews. Matthew began his writing with Abraham, (Matt. 1:1-17) the "father" of the Hebrews. He then wrote about gentile wise men seeking King Jesus, the One descended from Abraham. (Matt. 2:1-12) In Chapter 8, verses 5-13, Matthew wrote about how Jesus recognized the faith of a Roman centurion, saying that he hadn't found a faith to match it in Israel. In Chapter 1, verses 20-24, Jesus condemned cities of Israel, not Rome.
The Law speaks to everyone. That's why Jesus didn't change the Law, he fulfilled it. We certainly still need it. It like when a small child approached her mommy and says, "Mommy, I'm sick." Her mommy puts a thermometer in her mouth and it registers her temperature. Mom can leave the thermometer in that sweet little mouth all day, but it won't cure anything. She will want to do something about it.
That's what the Law is. It's a moral and spiritual thermometer. It shows us when something's wrong, and when it does, we need to act accordingly. It works that way for everybody, and Jesus is the cure.
