I really like most old people. There's a richness of life experience there for the tapping that just draws me to them. They've lived through depressions and World Wars and just on and on. In Leviticus 19, we're told;
'You shall rise before the gray headed and honor the presence of an old man, and fear your God: I am the LORD.' verse 32

My mom went to a birthday party for a lady who just turned ninety years old. The lady is still sharp. She has eight children and they were all in attendance. She had a little story to tell about each of them for fun, like the daughter of three who didn't know any better when her father had to take her to a job interview, and walked around the construction complex shouting "Sig heil!" and giving the accompanying salute. All of the stories were of course remembered in fun and my mother said everybody enjoyed themselves immensely.

This reminds me of a story my mom tells about me. I had seen an animated beer commercial that featured the 'Ham's Beer Bear" on it. I thought he was cool. My mother took me to some people's house for P.T.A. function and while she was trying to use the copy machine I was walking around the place repeating the words, "My mom drinks Ham's beer!" She couldn't get me to shush because I was too busy in my own little world entertaining myself. She may never let me forget it. (Laughing here.)

This little old lady buried her husband of over sixty years about three years ago. He was a cool old guy too. He always had a ready smile and was always busy. He read voraciously and liked to help people. I wonder at the lives people have led. He was a champion boxer when he was a young man, but I never knew him to have much of a temper, or see any indication that he would have been inclined to hurt a single soul. He lived his life in a way that was an example to others. People like that are such a blessing to me.

What a blessing to see a person that everyone can see as an example and try to emulate. Of course, we have a perfect example in Jesus. He lived His life in all ways and at all times pleasing to the Father. There is not a sole alive who can make that claim. And when His walk toward the Cross was nearing its conclusion He prayed to the Father;
I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do.John 17:4

How many of us could actually make that statement and call it true when our sojourn on this planet was close to ending? I only hope I can say I did some of the work I was given to do. Hallelujah! What a Savior!
