Homosexulity and Heaven
I had occasion a few of nights ago to chat online with a 17 year-old new Christian who was worried because she has definite bisexual tendencies, that she might not go to heaven. Can a homosexual person go to heaven? My thinking is that one of the essential doctrines of Christianity is that salvation is by faith alone in Jesus Christ alone. It isn't by one's works, whether they are good or bad that we enter into heaven. My answer would be that yes, a homosexual person can enter into heaven, having been forgiven by God through the atoning sacrifice of His Son.
That having been said though, such a person would had to have repented of their sin and entrusted their souls to Jesus. If one has done that, one cannot continue in a lifestyle of homosexuality. This would amount to waving their sin as a banner under God's holiness. Should one do that, they would eventually experience the agony of God's discipline.
2nd Timothy 3:16 says, "All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness;" The phrase "inspired by God" is translated from the Greek word, "theopneustos" (theh-op'-nyoo-stos). It literally means "divinely breathed in." If we look at what God's word declares, it is plainly stated that homosexuality is sinful. If we look at the mechanics of the bodies God designed, it is plain to see also that it goes contrary to the natural context that He had in His perfect mind.
Dr. James Dobson said, "Homosexuals deeply resent being told that they selected this same-sex inclination in pursuit of sexual excitement or some other motive." That has been my experience too. I see, homosexuality as a personal preference, a choice. I do not believe that it is in any way a genetic predisposition, but it wouldn't matter if it was. Man is genetically predisposed to sin, period. We get that from Adam.
The thing is, the Bible doesn't reveal sin to keep us from enjoying what we see as fun. It reveals sin to protect us from our own sinfulness, and from the depths of human depravity that we can all sink to if we choose to live our lives apart from Jesus. That is why we have the Bible. It is His love letter, given to us, that we might live under the authority of His Word for our beliefs and our behaviors.
